Passageways 2.0 Grand Opening Block Party

November 10, 2018

850 Market Street
Suite 200

Chattanooga, TN 37402

Presented By: River City Company

Location: 10 E 7th St, Chattanooga, TN 37402

Alley party anyone? It's time to open the next incredible Passageways alley space in Downtown Chattanooga. Join the free block party with music, food, dance performances and more to celebrate the opening of City Thread.

Come to 10 East 7th Street to join the fun.

Music will kick off at 4pm with Spinster, Courtney Reid and WARSAW bringing your musical entertainment throughout the evening. There will also be a dance performance by Pop Up Project along with food trucks, a cash bar and other vendors for you to enjoy. This event is family friendly.

You'll also have the chance to hear from and meet the Passageways 2.0 Design Team of Molly Hunker and Greg Corso from SPORTS in Syracuse, New York. The installation called City Thread consists of a continuous linear tube that physically connects visitors with a single gesture while also projecting a multitude of dynamic conditions along with painted accents. By virtue of its geometry, City Thread possesses many potential uses including seating, mini-stages, framing for art, large gatherings, farmers markets, movie screenings, and more. The design is intended to allow users to interpret and discover different ways to utilize the alley. In so doing, this art-as-urban-infrastructure can be used by a diverse range of users over the years, maintaining the alley as a vibrantly activated space.

Passageways 2.0 would not be possible without River City Company, Tinker Ma, Public Art Chattanooga, Lyndhurst Foundation and Benwood Foundation. And a special thanks to the First Tennessee Bank, BEHR and Ragan-Smith Associates for helping to transform this alley space.

The party is free, but you need a ticket ahead of time!

If you were to dissect today’s alternative rock music, you’ll find that much of it pays homage to The Psychedelic Furs. Led by vocalist and songwriter Richard Butler, and his bass-wielding brother Tim, the Furs scored major hits with 'Love My Way,'

Pretty In Pink,' 'Heaven,' 'The Ghost In You,' and “Heartbreak Beat” in all releasing seven studio albums, spawning several compilations, a boxed set, and a live concert DVD.Born out of the post-punk UK rock scene, the Furs quickly developed as one of the premiere bands on US College and Modern Rock radio scoring a multitude of #1 singles. With the advent of MTV in the early 80’s the band took off into the stratosphere, and when John Hughes’ approached the band with his film built around the Furs’ song “Pretty In Pink”, the band’s legacy was cemented. After a brief hiatus in the 90’s, and a side project called “Love Spit Love', the band regrouped at the dawn of the new millennium.

Dawes: Passwords Tour

November 11, 2018

1810 Chestnut Street

Chattanooga, TN 37408

Location: The Signal

It’s been nearly a decade since Dawes first emerged from Southern California, carrying with them a roots-rock sound that nodded to the past – including the West Coast folksingers and cosmic country-rockers who chased a similar muse during the 1970s – while still pushing forward.Over the years that followed their North Hills debut, the band evolved and electrified. The grooves deepened. The amplifiers grew louder. Once known for their honest approach to classic sounds, Dawes grew into something different: a forward-thinking, boundary-pushing band for the 21st century, willing to follow inspiration wherever it leads. On the group’s sixth album, Passwords, that inspiration pulls guitarist/singer Taylor Goldsmith, drummer Griffin Goldsmith, bassist Wylie Gelber, and keyboardist Lee Pardini into their most universal, topical territory to date. This is a record about the modern world: the relationships that fill it, the politics that divide it, the small victories and big losses that give it shape. Taylor’s writing is personal at points – the result of his recent engagement, which lends a sense of gravity and self-reflection to album highlights like “Time Flies Either Way” and “I Can’t Love” – but it also zooms out, focusing not on the director himself, but on everything within the lens.
