Nightfall: Albert Cumming
When: Friday, July 6, 7 p.m. Where: 850 Market St. How much: Free It would be easier to list who blues guitarist Albert Cummings hasn’t played with. The list includes B.B. King, Johnny Winter, and Buddy Guy among others. But Cummings, who will headline Friday’s Nightfall Concert at Miller Plaza, is also a consummate blues guitarist. He’ll be joined by his band for what promises to be a fiery performance on a hot night in July. Watch him perform below. Nightfall is always free. Mark Holder will open the show at 7 p.m. and you don’t want to miss that either.
The Bitter Alibi: 4-year anniversary bash
When: Saturday, July 7, 9 a.m. to midnight Where: 825 Houston St. How much: Free
It was just O’Heiney’s in a little dark cave on Houston Street until Matt Skudlarek and Jason Bowers decided to take a chance. Now, four years later, The Bitter Alibi is one of Chattanooga’s favorite places to grab a beer, cocktail and delicious food. Join the staff and longtime patrons on Saturday for a daylong birthday bash with food, drinks and dancing. A DJ will perform in the streets and we’ve been told water balloons will be involved. Admission is free.
Chattanooga Lookouts: The Zooperstars
When: Saturday, July 7, 7:15 p.m. Where: 201 Power Alley How much: $7-$10
One of the best nights of the year for families is the annual Zooperstars night at AT&T Field. Saturday’s event features zany costumed characters are sure to keep you entertained all night long. The Zooperstars are a mix of inflatables and mascots that each have their own personality. Watch Mackerel Jordan perform below. The night also features a “Kids Run the Bases” promotion following the game. Tickets are available here. Gates open at 6 p.m.
Movies in the Park at Coolidge
When: Saturday, July 7, 9 p.m. Where: 150 River St. How much: Free Grab a blanket and bring a picnic basket for a series of movie screenings in Coolidge Park this July. First Things First presents Movies in the Park every Saturday night in July after sundown (9 p.m.) Festivities begin this Saturday night with a screening of “Sing!” The film is set in an animated world controlled by animals, the film follows the story of Buster Moon, a koala, who seeks to produce a singing competition featuring some amazing singers with hopes and dreams of their own.
Guitar Chattanooga at the Chattanooga Market
When: Sunday, July 8, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Where: 1826 Reggie White Blvd. How much: Free A gathering of Chattanooga’s emerging musicians will headline the EPB stage at the Chattanooga Market on Sunday. Select guitarists are invited to plug up and jam with our musicians during the event. Visitors to the Chattanooga Market will enjoy an unrehearsed showcase of musicians enjoying their craft. Steve Brehm and the Chattanooga Youth Orchestra will perform at 12:30. The Jimmy Dormire Trio will perform at 2 p.m. As always, the market will have fresh produce and other items from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
