Is your home ready for spring?

10 EASY WAYS TO GET YOUR HOME READY FOR SPRING

1. Clean out the gutters.

Since spring is notorious for rain (April Showers...) you want to make sure your gutters don't overflow! During the windy winter your gutters have definitely filled up with leaves. Did you know this is the #1 place for roaches to live! This may be the cause of your bug problem. Make sure you clean them out!

2. Replace smoke and carbon monoxide detector batteries

You are supposed to change the batteries in your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors at least one a year... when was the last time you did it? It could save your life one day! Might as well take care of this while your getting your home ready for spring! Make sure you not to skip this one!

3. Clean off patio furniture

Patio furniture is one thing that gets hit hard over the winter. Is it just me or does yours end up coated in fuzzy dirty debris? Gross. Power wash your set if its sturdy, otherwise wipe it down with some cleaner made for outdoor furniture. Once it's clean take out those colorful pillows and maybe invest in an outdoor rug! This spring corals, greens, and grey are trending!!

4. Switch to lighter bedding

Just like you switch your clothing, spring is also a time to switch to lighter bedding. Put those flannel sheets, thick duvets and wool blankets up! Opt for a lighter cotton. Keep a light throw nearby in case the nights still get chilly. This will make for a much better nights sleep.

5. Plant flowers, veggies and herbs

One of the best things about spring are the beautiful flowers around the neighborhood! Plant some seeds or store-bought blooms out in your flowerbeds. It create an instantly welcoming look! If you love fresh veggies, consider sowing some in planter boxes in your garden!

Pro Tip: If you are thinking about selling your home this Spring, flowers will help boost your curb appeal and attract buyers)

6. Tidy up the garage

Over the winter there is a good chance you weren't spending much time in your garage. You probably used it as more of a storage unit than anything else. Take an afternoon and put everything back in its place. Having a place for all the outdoor toys will make for stress free fun this spring!

7. Power wash your driveway, deck and house!

Winter can leave a lot of your home covered in dirt, moss, and stained from snow, YUCK! Okay, maybe we didn't get much snow this year... but your house could probably use a good wash! Rent a power washer on a nice day and go to town. The results will be instant!

8. Service the AC unit

This spring you want to make sure your AC equipment is operating smoothly! Have a qualified heating and cooling contractor clean and service the outside unit of the air conditioning system.

9. Get your front porch in the spirit

There's a good chance you've neglected your front porch. You put those christmas lights away and never looked back. Take out a broom and sweep up the scattered leafs and cobwebs. Add a touch of spring by either incorporating color, flowers, or my favorite bunnies! Think coral and green!

10. Spring Shower Roof Leaks.
The number one place your roof is going to start leaking is from those pipes sticking through your roof. They are actually plumbing vent pipes that allow gases to exit your home! Where the pipe meets the roof there is a rubber boot that will dry rot in an average of 3 years! Bet you didn't know that. It's a simple $5 dollar fix!
Did you know spring is also "selling season". Getting your home up on the market for all the summer shoppers is very important if you want a fast sell. Think about it, would you rather move your 4 kids, 2 dogs, and entire life during winter or spring?
It's a no brainer. If you have been thinking about putting your home on the market, or even considering it give us a call. 423.401.9227
